VAUGHN, AR (Jan. 18, 2012) — Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter got “toilet-papered” today … in a good way.
Kimberly-Clark, a long-time supporter of the emergency shelter for abused and neglected children, donated an entire tractor-trailer load of toilet paper and paper towels to the organization – a gift that could keep the Children’s Shelter rolling in essential paper supplies for the immediate future. The donation of more than 2,500 cases of products is valued at more than $27,000. Because of the sheer size of the donation, the goods were delivered to the Children’s Shelter’s vacated former warehouse at Vaughn.
“As you might imagine, an organization that cares for about 500 children a year can go through an awful lot of paper goods,” said Steve Schotta, the Children’s Shelter’s Executive Director. “Products like these are essential to our day-to-day operations, and a donation of this magnitude means that we can make the most of our precious financial resources. Since the reimbursement we receive from the state for caring for abused and neglected kids covers only 20 percent of our actual expenses, we make every effort to make sure that we get as much mileage as possible out of every dollar we have. In-kind donations such as this help us do that.”
Craig Nowokunski, who leads Kimberly-Clark’s Northwest Arkansas team and also serves on the Children’s Shelter’s Board of Directors, said the gift merely reflects the company’s commitment to give back to the community. “As soon as I became involved with the Children’s Shelter, I realized that it was an organization that was a great match for Kimberly-Clark’s corporate values of authenticity, accountability, innovation and caring,” Nowokunski observed. “It is gratifying and rewarding to think that by simply giving paper goods, we can take part, several times a day, perhaps, in caring for each child who comes to this healing place.”
